We have finalized most of the dates for our 2018 Spring/Summer beekeeping training sessions. We offer the following training courses:
Introductory Beekeeping Course: This course is being offered on three separate dates:
Advanced Beekeeping Course: 2 day course to take place in August, follow our website and Facebook Page for finalized dates.

Protective beekeeping equipment is required for all of our courses, you can purchase or rent this equipment at our store (With advance notice as we need to ensure sufficient inventory).
Beekeeping introduction course
During our courses we will be in the bee yard working with our hives, as well as giving demos and presentations in our main facility. We will show you what you need to do in order to maintain your hives, and we will inform you on the manipulations you need to be aware of (rodents, bears, diseases and insects). Gerard has many years experience working with honey bee's and has been running an apiary in NL for 5 years, and 13 years out of province. Gerard will impart his years of study and experience during these workshops, along with fellow experienced beekeepers and our consultant Entomologists who will aid in these training sessions.
The introductory courses are dated for June 2nd - 3rd 2018, June 9th - 10th 2018, and there is potential for a third course offering on June 30th - July 1st 2018. The courses will run from 10:00am - 5:00pm, Saturday and Sunday at 28 Old Settlement Hill, Freshwater (Placentia Bay).
Registration fee: $230 for NLBKA members, $265 for non-members.
Advanced Beekeeping Course
This two day instructional hands on program is designed as the next step for apiarists who have knowledge of the beekeeping industry, or have previously kept bees. The class will combine lectures and bee yard visits for hands-on application of key course concepts. We will be offering at least two workshops in the late summer of 2018. Course topics will include: overwintering, queen rearing techniques, splits and Nucs, spring/summer/fall management techniques, swarm control, and a separate module will be dedicated to the evaluation of Nosema infection in honey bees. The overall goal is to provide you with the necessary strategies to grow and maintain your hives.
The advanced course will take place sometime in August, follow our website and Facebook Page for finalized dates. It will run from 10:00am - 5:00pm, Saturday and Sunday at 28 Old Settlement Hill, Freshwater (Placentia Bay).
Registration fee: $270 for NLBKA members, $305 for non-members.
Lunch each day included with registration fee, as well as coffee and refreshment breaks.
Space is limited and done on a first come first served basis, register early if interested.
