2019 Training Courses

This is a notice to those interested in receiving beekeeping training in 2019 please contact us at gandmbeesupply@gmail.com to be added to our training wait list. The courses will be scheduled sometime in June and/or July and will be two day weekend courses (Saturday & Sunday).

Protective beekeeping equipment is required for all of our courses,  you can purchase or rent this equipment at our store (with advance notice as we need to ensure sufficient inventory).

Introductory Beekeeping Course

During this course we will be in the bee yard working with live bees, as well as giving demos and presentations in our main facility. We will show you what you need to do in order to maintain your hives, and we will inform you on the manipulations you need to be aware of (rodents, bears, diseases and insects). Gerard has many years experience working with honey bee's and has been running an apiary in NL for 5 years, and 13 years out of province. Gerard will impart his years of study and experience during these workshops, along with fellow experienced beekeepers and our consultant Entomologists who will aid in these training sessions.

Registration fee: $255 for NLBKA members, $290 for non-members.

Advanced Beekeeping Course

This two day instructional hands on program is designed as the next step for apiarists who has knowledge of the beekeeping industry, or has previously kept bees. The course will combine lectures and bee yard visits for hands-on application of key course concepts. Course topics will include: overwintering, queen rearing techniques, splits and Nucs, spring/summer/fall management techniques, swarm control, and a separate module will be dedicated to the evaluation of Nosema infection in honey bees. The overall goal is to provide you with the necessary strategies to grow and maintain your hives.

Registration fee: $295 for NLBKA members, $330 for non-members.
 
Lunch each day included with registration fee, as well as coffee and refreshment breaks.

Space is limited and done on a first come first served basis, register early if interested.
