Weekend Introductory Beekeeping Course June 25th- 26th

10:00am - 5:00pm. Saturday and Sunday, 28 Old Settlement, Freshwater (Placentia Bay).
This intensive 2 day course will focus on all aspects of hands on equipment assembly & selection, seasonal beekeeping responsibilities, bee biology, two sessions working with live bees, assessing brood patterns, frame manipulation to get "winter ready", identification and marking a queen, how to install a nucleus colony ("nuc"), how to set up a swarm trap and how to catch a swarm, identification and selection of pollinator friendly plants and apiary site selection. Lunch each day included with registration fee. Coffee and refreshment breaks also included. Cost: $165 for NLBKA members, $195 for non-members.
Our guest speakers topics will include NL Wild Pollinators by Dr. Barry Hicks, Pollinator Friendly Plants by Evan Murray of Murray's Garden Center and chef Kenneth Pittman to conduct a honey tasting session.
When you arrive at our location there will be specific areas to park and one of our staff will assist you with this process.
